Book birthday! Launch of “Their Faces Shone”

I am delighted to share that my second book, Their Faces Shone: Lessons on Loving and Letting Go, was released this month by Light Messages Publishing. As I recently posted on Instagram, this feels like the culmination of a long journey - one that has held tremendous challenges as well as incredible gifts. I am very grateful for the support so many of you provided as David and I went through the process of discerning whether to become foster parents, getting licensed, having our foster daughter placed with us, grieving when she left our home, negotiating the confusing and difficult period after the transition, and finally coming to a place of resolution and acceptance. I’m also thankful for the love, guidance, and help I received as I was responding to the call I felt to write about our story, and as I was seeking publication of the book.

We will hold a virtual “book blessing” launch event on Sunday, August 30 at 4 pm EDT. Please contact me if you would like to join us and haven’t yet received an evite.

The August 30 event will also be a friend-raiser and fund-raiser for the Inter-Faith Council, an organization that works to confront the causes and respond to the effects of poverty in Orange County, North Carolina. I will be donating all proceeds from book sales to the Inter-Faith Council as well as two other non-profit organizations, National Crittenton and Ama Ghar (see below for more info).

For an overview of the book, you can check out this recent interview that my husband, David, and I gave with Brian Allain from Writing for Your Life and Compassionate Christianity. It was the first interview I’ve done with David, and we had a fun time. You can also read more about the topic of “risky love” in this blog series which was an amazing collaboration with several women writers.

I’d love to stay in touch - you can contact me here. Thank you again for your support!

with gratitude,
Kate

I hope you will consider joining David and me in supporting the work of these important non-profit organizations:

The Inter-Faith Council works to confront the causes and respond to the effects of poverty in Orange County, North Carolina.

National Crittenton advocates for social, economic, and political justice with and for girls, young women, and gender-expansive young people impacted by chronic adversity, violence, and oppression.

The Ama Foundation funds Ama Ghar Children’s Home near Kathmandu, Nepal to provide a stable home and access to education for at-risk homeless children. You can read about our family’s visit to Ama Ghar here.
